God, take this new year
Make it better than the last.
So fill our hearts with dreams and plans
That we burst with new wine…
Vision and power…
Success and contentment.
Let us not waste each precious moment.
For you gift to the children of men time
To use wisely.
So help us, Lord, to enjoy this time You give,
Please guide our feet and hold our hands.
Lead us, Lord.

Risk
To laugh is to risk appearing the fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To play your ideas and dreams before the crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To live is to risk dying.
To hope is to risk despair.
To try to is risk failure…
…but risk must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, and is nothing. One may avoid some suffering and sorrow but one simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow, live and love. Chained by one’s certitudes, one is a slave, one has forfeited freedom.
Only one who risks…is truly FREE.

Mercy
God’s mercy surprises and overwhelms me.
He forgives even when I forget to forgive myself
And reminds me of His love
So I let myself go from my offenses.
So I praise His name for His protection and salvation
And His caring heart.
God is Nurturer, Comforter, Healer…
“He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle.
He will bring justice to all who have been wronged.” Isaiah 42:3 NLT
‘and he prayed, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven above or on the earth below. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion.”‘ 1 Kings 8:23 NLT
Held
Heart breaking in twain,
Soul weary and battered by life’s ups and downs,
Near tears abed in the deep of night
When fears and failures haunt and torment…
Crying out for anything.
“Daddy, minister to me tonight!”
Completely desperate and surrendered.
Then feeling The Holy’s Spirit’s big, strong arms enfolding me…
Heavy presence protecting my body,
Comforting the pain in my soul,
Healing me in places I barely touch myself.
Peace at last.
Let naysayers speak all they want…
Some things are understood only when you’ve walked in them.
Or rather, with Him.
Love Like A Cat
Funny how God shows You His love at times.
I have a cat named Rocky who often loves me to the point of annoyance. He is fourteen years old and has been with me since he was about 8 weeks old. He is my baby, my still spry lively one. My little Prince Rochester.
He calls for me by name…Mama, like I used to call myself when he was little. He follows me around, begs to eat what I eat, sleeps with me, often on my side or my breast. He sings when I am coming home, I am told.
He wants to be held all the time.
But have you ever tried to prepare a hot breakfast with a small, wiry cat attached to your shoulder? Rocky has perfected his technique well. I can bend over, let go of him completely, and he doesn’t fall. Mr. Kitty Leach, thank you very much!
And he has no front claws…
Often, God has told me to be like my Rocky. He wants us, His children, to be so close to Him that we will not leave Him alone, underfoot, clinging to Him, calling Him by name. Never letting go, anticipating His coming.
Eating what He eats.
God calls us as His Princes and Princesses to act, from our hearts, like my little Rocky.
“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, ‘Abba, Father.‘” Romans 8:15 NLT
